Lydia AI is an applied artificial intelligence company that helps businesses grow by turning health insights into personalized experiences and intelligent automation. Using multi-modal real-world signals and enterprise data, Lydia AI powers AI agents that adapt to customers’ evolving needs, enabling more relevant products, services, and engagement across financial, retail, and digital platforms.

As an ML Researcher at Lydia AI, your primary focus will be on advancing and applying large language models (LLMs) to solve real-world problems that have the potential to impact millions of lives worldwide. You will work on tuning existing models, training new ones, and developing novel agentic solutions;  from automating underwriting forms and insurance claims to streamlining hotel booking processes for major clients. We are looking for a researcher who intuitively understands the nature of exploratory work and is eager to rapidly prototype and deploy LLM-based solutions in production. Your secondary focus will be on publishing papers in academic journals and conferences in strategic research areas for Lydia AI, supporting both personal growth and company thought leadership.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Research open problems using LLM techniques that can be incorporated into Lydia AI’s solutions for insurance, healthcare, and enterprise automation
  • Design and prototype LLM-based agentic systems that automate complex workflows across industries
  • Provide technical insights on LLM and other ML models capabilities and limitations to internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Analyze and debug ML models to improve performance and reliability
  • Collaborate with ML Engineers to transition research prototypes into scalable, production-ready systems
  • Present your work in internal seminars and represent Lydia AI at industry conferences
  • Champion an inclusive, open research culture within the team
  • Own problems end-to-end in Lydia AI’s highly ownership-driven environment
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Experience:
  • PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • At least 1 year of industry experience solving applied problems with ML
  • Proven track record of publishing in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, or related fields
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience with major ML and NLP libraries
  • R&D experience in LLM fine-tuning, prompt engineering, or agent-based systems
  • Experience working in insurance, healthcare, or enterprise automation is a bonus

In a typical week, you might ...
  • Conduct literature reviews to stay at the cutting edge of LLM research and applications
  • Prototype new approaches for automating complex processes using LLMs and agentic workflows
  • Present model insights and results to Lydia AI leadership or client teams
  • Draft and revise academic papers for top-tier conferences
  • Work with product teams to align LLM capabilities with business and customer needs

We celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workforce and foster a culture where all team members feel valued, respected, and supported.
